Noise Solutions

When Scott MacDonald and his father, Rod MacDonald, set out to start a manufacturing company in a niche market, they employed the philosophy of only working with the best in terms of clients and employees. Since it opened in 1997, General Manager and COO Scott MacDonald believes Noise Solutions Inc. has accomplished just that.

“To date, we’ve been very successful at achieving that mark,” he says. “Our people are dedicated to quality, which gives us the ability to provide solutions that are customized to the client’s needs and not some generic off-the-shelf alternative. We wanted to develop a system that would allow clients to not only trust Noise Solutions the company, but to be able to put their trust in our superior-designed noise solutions.”

Noise Solutions Inc. manufactures products for applications in gas compression, coal bed methane, oil production and mining at its manufacturing facility in Delburne, Alberta, Canada, and has sales offices in Calgary, Alberta, and Denver. Today, Noise Solutions Inc. boasts 60 employees and offers noise impact assessments, facility risk assessments, land owner liaison, consulting engineering and industry training services.

“Our customers come to Noise Solutions because they have a problem they require a solution for, and the quality of products and people Noise Solutions inc. is know for means there’s no smoke and mirrors just exceptional products and services,” he adds. “We’ve discovered that as time goes on, noise regulations become more stringent and community expectations more demanding while  the end-client just want to be good neighbors and responsible members of the community.”

Noise Suppression Blueprint
Noise Solutions Inc. makes sure it takes all the necessary steps to guarantee regulatory compliance and targeted noise reductions through its four-step Noise Solution Blueprint.

According to MacDonald, these steps will make the company’s first expansion into the United States a success. Even though the state of Colorado has different noise regulations than Alberta, the company’s assessment steps will bring it up to speed with the State requirements.

MacDonald states Noise Solutions Inc. is able to readily adapt because many of the industries in the United States are the same ones the company has been working with in Canada, such as gas compression and mining operators.

Along with attracting the best businesses to work with Noise Solutions, MacDonald also wanted to have the best people working with him. He and his father say they accomplished this by looking for the key qualities in people during the interview process and making sure the company maintains a culture of quality. “The environment that is portrayed throughout Noise Solutions Inc. is really one of quality, service and wanting to belong,” he says. “[There is] a sense of being a part of a team and belonging and contributing to the team.”

Modular Approach
The manufacturing facility is broken up into parts production, welding, sandblasting and powder coating, and the process begins once the design criteria hits the floor. Eighty percent of the components are manufactured at the plant.

The current manufacturing goal for Noise Solutions is to make its products more modular for easier delivery to distant markets, including the United States for now.

Although every order is customized to specific needs, Noise Solutions Inc. tries to minimize the amount of adjustments that are required with each new order. To accomplish this, the parts are designed to be flexible and adaptable to news designs as much as possible, according to MacDonald, which minimizes the time required to change manufacturing techniques.

“We are continuously improving and we are always looking for new ways to improve,” MacDonald says. “We go anywhere from cost of value-added productions to embarking on ways along the value-added production lines. We [encourage staff] suggestions … for production and material-flow improvement.”
